A total of 16 vacancies have been notified, based on requisition from the General Administration Department dated 7 January 2026. Additionally, 1 post (2%) is horizontally reserved for grandsons/granddaughters (potra/potri/nati/natin) of freedom fighters, as per the General Administration Department resolution dated 3 September 2015.

Candidates must be Indian citizens. Male, Female, and Third Gender candidates are eligible to apply. The selected Forest Range Officer will be placed at Pay Level-6 (Rs. 35,400 - Rs. 1,12,400) as per the 7th Pay Commission matrix. The notification does not specify a separate in-hand or gross salary figure including allowances.

Selection is made through a Written Examination, Interview, and Physical Efficiency Test. Candidates equal to 6 times the number of vacancies (category-wise, based on merit in the written exam) will be shortlisted and called for interview. This ratio may be reduced if a sufficient number of qualified candidates are not available for a category. The interview carries 50 marks. Marks obtained in the interview are added to the written exam score to prepare the final merit list.
