10+2 qualified in any stream, or an equivalent examination. Should be a medalist at Junior/Senior level representing a State in National competitions, or have represented the country at International level (individual event). Should have represented a State or country in National or International competitions at Junior/Senior level (team event). Should be a medalist in Khelo India Games & Youth Games, or above. A certificate from the respective sports authority (Federation) must accompany the recommendation for final selection. Winner of any medal in a World Championship/Asian Championship. Winner of any medal in the Asian Games. Winner of any medal in the Commonwealth Games (CWG)/World Cup. Represented India twice in the Asian Games/Commonwealth Games/World Cup. Candidates must be between 17½ and 25 years of age as on the date of commencement of the course. Candidates should have been born between 01 September 2001 and 28 February 2009 (both dates inclusive).

Regulations regarding height relaxation and tattoos are available on www.joinindiannavy.gov.in. Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned of wax and tartar removed from their teeth prior to medical examination. Gender: Any candidate found to have predominant characteristics of the opposite gender, as evidenced on external physical examination, will be rejected as UNFIT. Any candidate who has undergone gender reassignment surgery will be declared UNFIT. Pregnancy: Any female candidate found to be pregnant will be disqualified and her candidature rejected. A candidate should not have conceived at the time of reporting or till conclusion of ab-initio training; if found pregnant later during training, the candidature shall be rejected. Candidates declared medically unfit by any Armed Forces Hospital in a previous recruitment for the same entry in the Navy are advised not to apply.

Visual Standards

During the initial training period, a stipend of ₹14,600 per month is admissible. On successful completion of initial training, candidates are placed in Pay Level 5 (Petty Officers) or Pay Level 6 (Chief Petty Officers). Additionally, Military Service Pay (MSP) @ ₹5,200 per month, plus Dearness Allowance (DA) as applicable, is paid. Insurance cover (on contribution) of ₹75 lakhs is applicable for all sailors. Promotion prospects exist up to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (equivalent to Subedar Major). Opportunities for promotion to Commissioned Officer also exist for those who perform well, qualify prescribed examinations/selection processes, and meet eligibility conditions stipulated from time to time. Training: Initial training is conducted at INS Chilka, followed by professional training in the allotted trade at various Naval Training Establishments. Branch/Trade is allocated as per the requirement of the Service. Discharge as Unsuitable: Sailors are liable to be discharged as UNSUITABLE due to unsatisfactory performance at any time during training. Additionally, DEPO/DECPO entries are liable to be discharged if sports performance does not improve to expected levels in the probationary period of three years. Deserving candidates would be called to appear for trials at designated Naval Centres. Candidates qualifying trials will undergo medical examination at INS Hamla, Mumbai/INS India, Delhi. The Offer of Enrolment will be forwarded to the selected candidates only, which will be strictly determined by requirement in the particular sports discipline and availability of vacancies. Requests for change of venue of selection trials will not be entertained. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Short-listing criteria will be based on higher sports achievements. Call-up letters will be posted to eligible shortlisted candidates, indicating date, time, and place for the selection trial. All original certificates and mark sheets must be produced at the time of the selection trial.
