JKSSB Junior Engineer Mechanical Vacancy 2026 has a total of 127 posts in Pay Level-6 for the Public Works (R&B) Department. The category-wise breakup given in Annexure-A is shown in the table. The board states that the actual number of posts may increase or decrease before or during the selection process. Horizontal reservation for Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) applies to the extent communicated by the Indenting Department or as per extant rules. The post-wise numbers for these horizontal categories are not specified in the notification.

To meet the JKSSB Junior Engineer Mechanical eligibility, candidates must satisfy the domicile, qualification and age conditions as on the cut-off date. The candidate must be a Domicile of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and must hold a valid Domicile Certificate issued by the Competent Authority in the prescribed format on or before the cut-off date, i.e. 15.12.2026 unless extended. The candidate must hold the educational qualification given below, acquired on or before the cut-off date. Candidates seeking reservation must hold a valid category certificate in the prescribed format as on the cut-off date and upload it with the online application. Candidates claiming equivalent qualification, where applicable, must produce the relevant Equivalence Certificate. The final decision on such candidates rests with the Board. The post of Junior Engineer (Mechanical) carries Pay Level-6 with a pay scale of 35400–112400. Allowances and other benefits are not specified in the notification.

The JKSSB Junior Engineer Mechanical application fee is Rs. 600, and Rs. 500 for SC, ST-1, ST-2, EWS and PwBD candidates. The fee can be paid only online through Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card. Applications received without the prescribed fee are summarily rejected. The fee once paid is not refunded under any circumstances and is not adjusted against any other examination or selection.

The JKSSB Junior Engineer Mechanical age limit is counted as on 01.01.2026. The maximum age is 40 years for Open Merit candidates and up to 43 years for the reserved categories, as shown below. Ex-Servicemen who have served in the Armed Forces can deduct the period of service from their actual age. If the resultant age does not exceed the maximum age limit prescribed for the post by more than 3 years, they are deemed to satisfy the age condition. Such candidates must not be born after 01.01.2008.

The selection for the post of Junior Engineer (Mechanical) will be made on the basis of merit obtained in the written/OMR examination only. Appearing in the examination more than once for the same item number leads to cancellation and debarment.
