NPCIL is a public sector enterprise under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. It handles every stage of a nuclear power reactor in India, from site selection, design and construction through operation, maintenance, life extension, waste management and decommissioning. The closing date, 18 November 2026, is also the cut-off date for qualifications and every other eligibility condition. The qualification must have been earned through a full-time, regular course. Diploma and graduate candidates must have passed their qualifying exam within 5 years of 18 November 2026. This is a condition for applying on the NATS portal. Anyone who is not an Indian national over 18 years of age. Anyone who has completed, or is currently doing, an apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, 1961 in any government body, PSU or private industrial organisation. Anyone who left an earlier apprenticeship at any organisation without completing it (absconded). Candidates must be free of any contagious or infectious disease. They must also be free of any illness that apprenticeship is likely to worsen, that would make them unfit for training or that would put public health at risk.

Eligible local candidates living within 16 km of Narora Atomic Power Station get first preference, subject to the reservation rules. If there are not enough eligible local candidates in a category, candidates from outside the area are considered on merit. The shortlist is based on the percentage of marks in the respective trade or discipline. If two candidates have the same percentage, the one born earlier ranks higher. If the date of birth is also the same, the candidate with the higher Matriculation (10th) percentage ranks higher. Candidates graded in CGPA, GPA, SGPA or letter grades must submit the conversion table issued by their institute. If the institute has no conversion formula, NPCIL uses the following equivalents:

Place of training: Narora Atomic Power Station, Narora, PO NAPS Township, Distt. Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh - 203389. Duration: a maximum of 12 months for all three types of apprentice. Each apprentice signs a contract of apprenticeship with NPCIL under the Apprentices Act, 1961 and the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992. The contract ends when the training period ends. Apprentices who stay away from training may have to refund the whole cost of their training, meaning the stipend received, as decided by the Central Apprenticeship Advisor. NAPS is a highly protected area, so apprentices are engaged only after they submit a Police Verification Certificate issued by the District Police Authorities. No hostel or transport is provided.
