Panjab University PG Merit List 2026: Release Stages Explained

The merit list is not a single event it is released in stages, as laid out in the DUI circular:

• Tentative Merit List: Uploaded by the Computer Centre on 06.08.2026, for courses that do not involve an Aptitude Test or Departmental Test.
• Objection Window: Candidates can raise objections against the Tentative Merit List on 07.08.2026.
• Provisional Merit List: Uploaded on 11.08.2026 after objections are resolved. This list also covers departments where admission depends on a Departmental/Aptitude Test.
• Provisional Admission List: Prepared category-wise by each Department and sent to the DUI office for approval by 12.08.2026 for departments not holding counselling, and by 20.08.2026 for departments that hold counselling.
• Final Approval: The DUI office approves the Provisional Merit List by 24.08.2026, after which the concerned Department uploads it on the departmental notice board and on the official admissions portal.

Document Verification Rules Departments Must Follow

The circular also lists instructions for departments preparing the merit list:

• Merit lists must be prepared following the reservation rules in the Handbook of Information 2026.
• If a department changes an applicant's academic qualification details in the portal, it must click "Generate Merit" again to review the updated list.
• Reserved-category candidates who availed relaxation in eligibility marks cannot be included in the General Category Provisional Admission list.
• Candidates who applied under a reserved category and cleared the Entrance Test on that basis, but whose reserved-category certificate was rejected by the verification committee, must have their eligibility separately re-examined by the Department, and this must be noted in the merit list.
• The Provisional Admission List (in triplicate) must include: Sr. No., Application No., Category, Name, Father's Name, and Overall Marks along with a category-wise waitlist.
• After DUI approval, a single consolidated file of admitted and waitlisted candidates must be uploaded on the department's online notice board and on the admissions portal.
• Fees must be submitted only through the Online Fee Portal, as per the Accounts-II circular dated 14.07.2026.

Sports Quota (5% Reserved Category) Counselling Update

Separately from the general schedule, Panjab University also published the Provisional Eligibility Status for applicants seeking PG admission 2026-27 under the 5% reserved category for sports. Key points from this notice:

• Sports counselling, document verification, and the game performance test were scheduled for 07.08.2026 at 9:30 a.m. at the Panjab University Gymnasium Hall.
• Only candidates marked "Provisionally Eligible" needed to appear with original certificates and documents for verification.
• Candidates whose status was pending or who needed to resolve discrepancies were required to submit the necessary documents on the day of counselling.

Important Instructions

• All dates above are as approved by the Dean of University Instruction on 28.07.2026 and are subject to official updates on the university portal.
