SMC has announced vacancies across 8 posts with category-wise distribution as follows. The total vacancy count across all cadres is 80 , with specific reservations for SC, ST, SEBC (Socially and Educationally Backward Class), General/Unreserved, and EWS (Economically Weaker Section) categories. Additionally, out of the Senior Swimming Pool Instructor posts, 1 post is reserved for PwD (Divyangjan) ; out of Junior Swimming Pool Instructor posts, 1 post is reserved for PwD ; and out of Electrical Wireman posts, 8 posts are reserved for PwD . Reserved category vacancies are applicable only to original Gujarat domicile candidates of the respective reserved categories. Candidates from reserved categories may apply for unreserved posts, but selection criteria for unreserved posts will apply.

Each post carries specific educational qualifications and age limits. Candidates must fully satisfy the eligibility conditions before submitting their application, as experience gained before obtaining the required educational degree/qualification will not be considered valid. 1. Director (Information Technology) - Cancelled Education: Postgraduate degree in Computer / Electronics / Electronics & Communication / Information & Communication Technology / Electronics & Telecommunication / Computer Science / Information Technology Engineering from a recognized university/institute. Experience: 9 years' experience after postgraduate degree in a government/semi-government organization in a post with pay scale of ₹8,000–13,500/-, involving Information Technology work. 2. Departmental Enquiry Officer - Cancelled Education: Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university. Experience:

Age is reckoned as on the last date for online application (06 July 2026) . The upper age limit varies by post and must not exceed the prescribed limit even after relaxation. Candidates wondering about age relaxation can note that reserved category (SC, ST, SEBC, EWS) candidates who are original Gujarat domicile residents are eligible for age relaxation as per prevailing government rules, but the upper age limit after relaxation must not exceed 45 years . Regular employees of Surat Municipal Corporation are exempt from the upper age limit . SMC trainees (on fixed monthly stipend) are subject to the age limit rules.

The application fee must be paid online only. Cash, Demand Draft, Postal Order, or Pay Order payments are not accepted. Bank charges levied during online payment are to be borne by the applicant. Important : Once the online fee is paid, it is non-refundable under any circumstances. If a candidate submits the form again using the re-apply option, the earlier form is cancelled but the fee already paid is not refunded.

SMC offers competitive pay scales aligned with the state government pay matrix. For Swimming Pool Instructor posts and Electrical Wireman, a fixed monthly training stipend of ₹16,500/– (Junior) or ₹17,500/– (Senior) applies for the first three years.

The selection for SMC Recruitment 2026 will be conducted in stages as determined by the appointing authority. For Post No. 1 (Director IT), the Standing Committee will finalize the waitlist; for Posts 2 to 8, the Appointment Authority will determine the final selection criteria based on basic qualification and/or experience. Reservations for PwD candidates apply specifically to Post No. 5 (1 seat), Post No. 6 (1 seat), and Post No. 8 (8 seats).
