SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026 carries approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies for LDC/JSA and DEO posts combined. The notice states that final vacancies, along with the post-wise and category-wise break-up, will be published later on the SSC website under Candidate's Corner > Tentative Vacancy. State-wise or zone-wise vacancy figures are not compiled by the Commission; candidates are advised to contact the respective User Departments for that information.

Eligibility for SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026 is assessed as on the cut-off date of 07 October 2026, and covers nationality, educational qualification, and age. A candidate must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from certain specified countries with the intention of settling permanently in India (candidates in the latter categories require an eligibility certificate from the Government of India). Candidates who have appeared for their Class 12 exam can also apply, but they must have the qualifying result declared on or before 07 October 2026. Only a declared result counts - a result "under process" does not meet the requirement.

The age limit for SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026 is 18 to 27 years, reckoned as on 01 August 2026. This means candidates born not before 02 August 1999 and not later than 01 August 2008 are eligible to apply. Age relaxation is available as per government norms. Tier-I consists of objective type, multiple-choice questions only, with a total duration of 60 minutes and negative marking of 0.50 marks per wrong answer. Tier-II is conducted in two sessions on the same day, comprising four sections: Section-I (Mathematical Abilities and Reasoning & General Intelligence), Section-II (English Language & Comprehension and General Awareness), Section-III (Computer Knowledge Test, qualifying in nature), and Section-IV (Skill Test/Typing Test for DEO and LDC/JSA posts respectively). Applications must be submitted only in online mode; no offline applications are accepted. Candidates can select up to three exam centres in order of priority. Fee once paid is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted against any other exam. The correction window (14–16 October 2026) allows a maximum of two modifications/re-submissions to the application; only applications with fee received (or fee-exempted) are eligible for correction.
