Only female candidates are eligible to apply for these posts. The candidate must be a resident of the same Gram Sabha (for rural posts) or the same ward of the urban area (for urban posts) against which the vacancy exists - this residency condition is mandatory. If no eligible candidate is available in a particular category within a Gram Sabha, category-wise selection will be made from the concerned Nyaya Panchayat (adjoining panchayat circle). Widowed applicants must submit their husband's death certificate and a copy of the family register, certified by the Gram Panchayat Officer or the concerned urban local body. In cases of divorce or desertion, only a valid order issued by a competent court will be accepted as proof.

The minimum educational qualification prescribed for the post of Anganwadi Karyakatri is Intermediate (12th pass) or an equivalent qualification. Where more than one eligible candidate is available in the same category for a post, a merit list will be prepared among all eligible applicants, and the merit will be finalised giving weight to the highest educational qualification held, up to postgraduate level.
