WBPSC English Stenographer Recruitment 2026 Notification Out – Apply Online for 266 Posts

The Commission will conduct the examination at various centres in Kolkata. The December 2026 schedule is tentative, and the exact examination date will be announced separately.

WBPSC has announced 266 vacancies for recruitment to Schedule A and Schedule B English Stenographer (Basic Grade) cadres.

WBPSC English Stenographer Category-Wise Vacancy Details

Candidates must meet the prescribed educational qualification, computer typing requirement, language eligibility and age conditions. Applicants must have passed the Madhyamik Examination conducted by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or an equivalent examination . Candidates must be capable of typing in English on a computer at the prescribed speed. Candidates must have the ability to read, write and speak Bengali. This requirement does not apply to applicants whose mother tongue is Nepali. For candidates whose mother tongue is neither Bengali nor Nepali, knowledge of Bengali will be tested during the computer typing test. Poor performance in this language assessment may lead to cancellation of candidature. The prescribed age limit is 18 to 44 years as of 1 January 2025 . The date of birth recorded in the Madhyamik or equivalent certificate will be accepted for determining age eligibility. Candidates claiming age relaxation must satisfy the respective category and certificate requirements.

WBPSC English Stenographer Age Relaxation

Both Schedule A and Schedule B English Stenographer (Basic Grade) posts carry Pay Level 9 under WBS (ROPA) Rules, 2019 .

The prescribed fee must be paid online, where applicable. The Commission will not entertain requests for fee refunds or adjustment against another examination.

The recruitment examination consists of three papers carrying a combined maximum of 600 marks . Paper I: General English examination. Paper II: Dictation and Transcription examination. Paper III: Computer Typing examination. Final merit preparation using the combined marks obtained in all three papers, subject to qualifying criteria. Medical fitness examination and verification of antecedents before appointment. The Commission will first conduct Paper I. Based on Paper I results, a limited number of candidates will be admitted to Paper II and Paper III. Final Merit Rule: The final merit list will be prepared using the combined marks in Paper I, Paper II and Paper III. Paper I is not merely a qualifying screening examination; its marks also contribute to final merit.

The Commission has specified the following category-wise minimum aggregate qualifying marks across the three papers. Important: The aggregate qualifying marks do not replace the separate qualifying standards that the Commission may prescribe for individual papers. WBPSC also reserves the discretion to relax qualifying marks under the advertised conditions. If candidates obtain equal aggregate marks, the Commission will apply the following preference order: Higher marks in the Dictation and Transcription paper. Higher marks in the Computer Typing paper. Higher accuracy marks in the typing paper. Higher marks for typing speed. Higher age of the candidate.

WBPSC English Stenographer Minimum Qualifying Marks

SC, ST, OBC Non-Creamy Layer and EWS reservation benefits are available to eligible West Bengal candidates. Candidates belonging to these categories from other states will be considered for unreserved vacancies. OBC Non-Creamy Layer candidates must provide valid renewed or revalidated certificates at the prescribed stages. EWS applicants must provide the prescribed Income and Asset Certificate. Reservation claims must be made while submitting the online application and supported by certificates issued by the competent authority. The notification provides reserved vacancies for eligible Meritorious Sportspersons (MSP) in recognized competitions. The notified sports include Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Judo, Rifle Shooting, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Archery. WBPSC will provide a limited opportunity to edit permitted application fields from 10 November to 13 November 2026, up to 3:30 PM . Candidates will be allowed to edit only certain fields. Applicants wishing to change their address must first make the relevant change in their profile and then use the Edit option. Important: The Edit facility can be used only once. No correction requests will be entertained after the prescribed closing date.
