How It Works
Do I have to follow all 4 steps?
No — only Crop & Size is needed to get started. Background Remove, the AI Super Resolution upscale, and File Size (KB) targeting in Export are all optional. You can jump to any step directly using the step bar at the top.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Every operation — background removal, AI upscaling, color correction, face detection, sharpening — runs entirely inside your browser using TensorFlow.js, MediaPipe and WebGL/WebAssembly. Your photo never leaves your device.
What powers the "AI" in this tool?
Real on-device neural networks: an ESRGAN-style TensorFlow.js super-resolution model for upscaling, Google's MediaPipe Face Landmarker for face detection, and MediaPipe's selfie segmentation model for background removal — all run locally, no API keys, no cloud calls. Color/tone/sharpening tools use classical image-processing algorithms (histogram auto-levels, unsharp masking, dark-channel dehaze) rather than generative AI, so results stay natural and don't invent fake detail.
Why is 4× / 8× upscaling slow on my device?
4× and 8× run the real AI model 2 or 3 times in sequence for genuine detail recovery at each stage. Devices with a good GPU (WebGL) finish in seconds; older devices without WebGL fall back to CPU and can take longer on large photos.
