The Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, was formerly called the Indian School of Mines and was established in 1926. It is located in Dhanbad – 826 004, Jharkhand. It has 17 full-fledged departments that offer undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses in Engineering, Pure and Applied Sciences, Management, and Humanities and Social Sciences.

The EWS vacancy was first advertised under Advt. No. 411002/12/2025-NFR dated 20.02.2026 and was not filled. The notice says that if no suitable EWS candidate is available, the vacancy may be filled as an unreserved post. The notice says the post is suitable for Divyang candidates with these benchmark disabilities: Low Vision, Hard of Hearing, and Locomotor disability (including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy). Age, educational qualification and experience are counted as on the closing date for applications. Essential qualification: Masters' degree or equivalent in any discipline with at least 55% marks or its equivalent Grade of B in the UGC seven points scale. Essential experience (either of the following): At least 9 years' experience as Assistant Professor in the AGP of Rs. 6000/- (Academic Pay Level – 10) and above, with experience in educational administration, or comparable experience in a research establishment and/or other institutions of higher education; or 5 years' administrative experience as Assistant Registrar or an equivalent post in Pay Band – 3, Grade Pay of Rs. 5400 (Pay Level–10) and above, with experience in handling computerized administration, Establishment, Stores & Purchase or financial matters. Preliminary shortlisting based on the essential qualifications and experience. If a large number of applications is received, the Institute may decide its own method of shortlisting. Presentation and Interview before the Selection Committee. The final selection depends on performance at this stage. The Institute may hold it online. A Written Test and a Computer or other Test may be held, if required, under the Recruitment Rules of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. Shortlisted candidates who attend the Presentation and Interview are paid to-and-fro rail fare. This covers the shortest route from their normal place of residence in India to Dhanbad, limited to AC-3 tier, and is paid on submitting a claim with the tickets. Meeting the qualifications does not by itself guarantee a call for the selection process.

Deputation period: up to 22.11.2028 at most, or until the regular incumbent returns from deputation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. If the lien holder rejoins IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, the selected candidate goes back to the parent office or previous post. Other deputation terms follow Institute rules.
