The exact schedule and venue for the physical test, Hindi writing test, and technical skill test will be announced separately through daily newspapers and the NIC Deoghar website, as stated in the notification.

The vacancies below are described in the notification as provisional in nature and may be revised (increased, decreased, or modified) without prior notice. 50% of posts in both Rural and Urban Home Guard categories are earmarked for women. In the Urban Home Guard category, 50% of vacancies are earmarked for technically skilled candidates. If suitable candidates are not available in one sub-category (technical/non-technical), the vacancy will be filled from the other. Of the posts earmarked for women, 5% are reserved for eligible divorced/deserted/widowed women candidates. If such candidates are not available, these posts revert to the general women's quota.

Rural Home Guard: The candidate must be a permanent resident of the same block in Deoghar district from which they are applying, supported by a self-attested residence certificate issued by the competent authority. Urban Home Guard: The candidate must be an ordinary resident of the urban area of Deoghar district, supported by a self-attested residence certificate issued by the competent authority.

Candidates must be between 19 and 40 years of age as on 01.01.2026 for both Rural and Urban Home Guard posts. The notification does not specify any separate upper age relaxation for reserved categories. Candidates must attach self-attested certificates supporting their claimed educational qualification. Candidates seeking relaxation in physical standards must attach a caste certificate issued by the competent authority. Candidates applying for the technically skilled Urban Home Guard vacancies must be skilled in a technical field and either employed in a related office or self-employed with relevant technical knowledge. The notification lists the following as generally recognised technical categories: doctor, engineer, advocate, lecturer/professor, nurse, computer operator, typist, licensed driver (HMV/LMV), cook, carpenter, cobbler, washerman, barber, electrician, gardener, plumber, and similar trades. A technical proficiency certificate issued by the competent authority is required.

Physical Standards (Common for Rural and Urban Home Guard)

The application fee is Rs. 100 (one hundred rupees only) , payable through the online payment gateway on the official website at the time of submitting the application. The application is considered final only after the fee is successfully paid.

As stated explicitly in the notification, this is a voluntary enrolment and not a salaried government post. There is no fixed monthly salary. Enrolled Home Guards receive a duty allowance at rates fixed by the government, paid only for the number of days they are actually deployed on duty as required.

Selection is conducted as per the Home Department, Government of Jharkhand notification No. 5442 dated 20.10.2014, through the following stages: Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Comprising a 1-mile race, high jump, long jump, and shot put, with marks awarded on a sliding scale for each event. All certificates submitted with the application (educational, technical, age-related, sports, residence, and caste certificates for relaxation, where applicable) must be issued before the date of application. All submitted certificates must be self-attested. Incorrect entries in the application can lead to cancellation of the application, with no claim entertained in this regard. Urban technical-category candidates who do not pass the technical skill test will have their candidature cancelled.
