The educational qualification varies by post code, ranging from a Diploma or B.Sc. degree for Project Assistant II posts, to M.Sc., B.E./ B.Tech., M.E./ M.Tech., or PhD degrees for Project Associate and Senior Project Associate posts. Candidates should refer to the vacancy details table above for the exact qualification required for each post code. The applicant must be a citizen of India. Result awaiting candidates are not eligible to apply. Candidates pursuing a Ph.D. (including AcSIR Ph.D.) can apply only if their research domain aligns with the project's research area, and only after obtaining prior permission/NOC from their Director/Competent Authority. Currently employed candidates must furnish a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their current employer at the time of application and produce the original at the time of interview.

The maximum age limit as on the last date of receipt of application is 35 years for post codes 8501 to 8510, and 40 years for post code 8511 (Senior Project Associate). Age relaxation of 5 years is applicable for SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates, and 3 years for OBC candidates, or as per Government of India instructions issued from time to time.

The selection process for CSIR-IMMT Recruitment 2026 involves the following steps: Screening of applications received, based on criteria fixed by the Competent Authority. The engagement is purely temporary and co-terminus with the tenure of the project, or 6 years (total period of engagement under one project and/or combination of projects), whichever is earlier. This engagement does not confer any right or claim for regularization to a permanent post at CSIR. Engagement may be terminated at any time on one month's notice from either side, or one month's emoluments in lieu thereof. The date for determining age, essential qualification, and experience is the last date of submission of application. Women project personnel are eligible for maternity leave of 180 days, and male project personnel for paternity leave of 15 days, in case of two surviving children, as per CSIR norms.
